An interesting upcoming indie game has caught my eye. TetherGeist is a precision 2D platformer that will instantly remind you of Celeste. And probably Super Meat Boy, too! It’s made and published by O. and Co. Games and Out of Space Games.
TetherGeist is dropping on May 7th, 2026. It’s coming to Steam and Nintendo Switch, and it’s also compatible with Nintendo Switch 2. There’s going to be a Standard Edition and also a Supporter Edition, which comes with the full soundtrack and a digital artbook.
Don’t get stuck forever!
You play as Mae, who’s a young Mountain Shaman, except she’s not like the others. For hundreds of years, these shamans have been using Astral Projection to travel huge distances with their spirit. But Mae has a motor disability that affects her journey.
Her spirit can’t just wander off freely. It’s both her limitation and her entire moveset. But Mae’s got Bao with her, though. It’s her axolotl spirit companion and the other half of the Astral Projection thing.
Because Mae cannot fully leave her body like other shamans, she projects her spirit as a controlled extension of herself. So, when it’s time for her coming-of-age pilgrimage, you see that this tether defines all her movement, momentum, and ability to overcome obstacles.
Instead of flying around, you’re swinging, grappling, launching yourself across gaps, and dodging traps. You mess up, you’re right back in it, try again, learn, repeat. No enemies, no powerups, no skill trees, none of that. Everything is just about movement, timing, and understanding how the space works.
TetherGeist is about community, growing up, and being different
You unlock seven different Azae over time, which change how your spirit interacts with the environment. Each region tweaks how things work, so you’re constantly relearning and adapting.
You also stumble upon hidden paths, secrets, and treasures. There are frequent checkpoints and instant retries, alongside the timed runs.
