In its recent showcase, game publisher Top Hat Studios announced that it’s teaming up with developer Innombrable to bring a new action-adventure game to PC. Titled Ryn: And the Thread of Life, you play as a rag doll with a pair of enchanted scissors.
Edward Scissorhands?
No, you are Ryn, a rag doll born from the world’s last fragment of light. She ended up having to deal with a realm that’s falling apart due to a dark witch named Stella. She’s torn apart the sacred Thread of Life, leaving magic corrupted and the entire world in a rather dreadful state.
Ryn’s job is to track down Stella’s five wicked, corrupted dolls. She has to defeat them, steal their powers, and put the Thread of Life back together. She can use her enchanted scissors to chain together light and heavy attacks, dodge incoming hits, and unleash special abilities.
Battles also feature Quick Time Events, turning certain encounters into cinematic showdowns. Meanwhile, exploration is where the game’s metroidvania influences start showing up. The world in Ryn: And the Thread of Life is an interconnected platforming environment full of hidden paths, shortcuts, secrets, and unlockables.
You’ll also find diaries and environmental storytelling that reveal more about the realm, its history, and the events that led to everything falling apart. And the abilities you earn will help you reach previously inaccessible areas, uncover hidden routes, and discover secrets.
Ryn: And the Thread of Life has an amusing visual style
The game has visceral and fluid combat in a captivating fairy-tale-like retro-inspired dark atmosphere. So, it has an unusual anime-meets-cartoon look, mixing low-poly 3D environments with pixel art. Take a look at it below.
Ryn: And the Thread of Life is available on Steam to wishlist.
