A psychological adventure which gets the correct balance between mystery, weirdness, and gameplay is absolutely my thing. And I feel Deperson fits my taste perfectly. It’s developer Error Thing’s upcoming psychological horror adventure, which has now made its Tokyo Game Show 2026 debut.
The story follows Aaron, a young man who wakes up in Indrija with no memory of who he is. Indrija is a dystopian nation where surveillance, fear, and strict obedience define everyday life, with obedience meaning survival and deviation treated like an error.
As Aaron searches for answers, the story turns into a self-reflective journey through his identity and memories, with reality becoming more unstable and surreal. He’s afraid of everything, including himself.
The gameplay combines classic point-and-click adventure with environmental puzzles, platforming, and character-specific abilities. Sometimes you’ll need to run, sometimes you’ll need to stop and think, pay attention to your surroundings and use each character’s abilities to deal with the problems.
You observe the environment, manipulate things around you, and use those abilities to get past dangers and obstacles. You can shape Aaron through your choices, turning him into someone stronger, crueller, or even more broken. They can affect the people pulled into his journey as well.
Deperson has multiple endings
Reality and memory are constantly bleeding into each other in the game, so the world rarely stays quite the way you found it. It’s hand-drawn and set in a richly detailed dystopian city, with atmospheric visuals and a haunting adaptive soundtrack. Take a look at the latest trailer to see for yourself!
