Ever played a game like Grow A Garden and think ‘I wish I was fighting for my life right now.’ Anomaly Garden exists to scratch that particular gaming itch… and it’s proved to be pretty addictive for at least some of us at GZ recently. I’d say ‘it’s grown on me’ but then I’d have to be thrown in the bad pun writing pit… whoops. Anyway, from my experiences earning my first million, escaping ??? and unlocking the greenhouse, here is some info on how to play Anomaly Garden.
How To Play Anomaly Garden
You begin your game some good news and bad news.
You have a free garden plot to plant on and earn money from. That’s good.
The garden is sitting over a dimensional rift and sometimes anomalous entities and phenomena slip through. That’s bad.
Taking out anomalies will reward you with Shards, which you can use to upgrade your plot. That’s good.
As you upgrade parts of your plot, the rift will become more active and more dangerous, but valuable anomalies will spawn. That’s… bad? Good? Depends on how handy you are with a scythe, I guess.
Crops
Crops are your main method of earning money in Anomaly Garden. If you’ve played Grow A Garden, or more or less any Roblox gardening game, you’ll probably have some vague idea of how it works.
Buy seeds from the Seed Shop.Plant the seeds in a cleared square in your plot. (You can clear a square with the Shovel tool on your hotbar.)The plant will then take some time to grow.Once the plant has reached full size, you can harvest it by swinging your scythe tool at it.Once you want to sell all your crops, head out of your garden gate and turn right to step onto the slightly sinister looking summoning circle to immediate send your crops to… somewhere in exchange for money.
The Seed Shop works in a similar way to shops of that nature in other games. Seeds may be be in stock, and available to buy, or they may be out of stock. The shop refreshes regularly, so you can go back and check on what’s on offer when you get a notification informing you of that…if you’re not battling goblins or getting trapped in the Backrooms. More on that later, though.
The Rift
Your garden sits on top of a rift. This isn’t a mechanic the game explains that much, but it’s very important as it will have a big effect on how easy your life in that garden will be.
If you check the big screen next to the garden entrance you can check a number called Rift Pressure. Rift Pressure is how high the anomalous activity is. The higher the pressure, the more entities will appear in the garden and the more dangerous it will be, though it’s divided up into broad categories.

You can increase the Rift Pressure by upgrading your walls, using the console to the right of the entrance. Why would you want to increase the number of dangerous extraplanar creatures partying in your carrot patch? Well, taking them out will give you Shards. This is the secondary currency in the game, which you can use for some extremely useful things, like buying Artifact pedestal, and a mech. Yes, a mech.
Anomalies
The effect of Rift Pressure is anomalies. These strange creatures are sometimes friendly, usually not, and taking them out gives you Shards. Here are some of the more common ones you might run into.
Noob/Noob Killer
There’s a dead noob in your garden. Better get rid of him before he starts making the place look untidy… wait that noob’s not dead! The Noob and Noob Killer are actually the same entity. A seemingly expired noob lying facedown on the grass will hop up and start chasing you when approached. Luckily, they’re not all that strong so hit him a few times with your scythe to put him back down permanently.
Shadow Hand
This disembodied hand wants to give you a great deal on crop seeds. Where did they get the seeds from? Don’t worry about it! The seeds tend to be cheaper than they would at the seed shop, and can provide pretty rare seeds.
There is one catch. Buying a seed has a chance to banish you to the Backrooms for a short time. This isn’t necessarily a terrible thing, as there are some valuable crates down there.
Clouds
These floating clouds drift around your garden, sometimes mutating crops they cross. They can also have an effect on you. There are two known types.
Nebula Cloud
A dark cloud streaked with bright blues and purples. If you step into this it will restore your health.
Toxic Cloud
A dark green cloud. Stepping into this will do a lot of damage.
Hound
A four-legged, eyeless and earless dog-like creature. Very hostile and will attack on sight. The higher the Rift Pressure, the more that are likely to spawn at ones.
Eye Plant
These things are pretty harmless… at first. They grown and give the beneficial Corrupted mutation to crops nearby. Leave them in the ground too long as your own risk though. If left to grow for too long they’ll mutate into more dangerous forms.
Goblins
A goblin camp may spawn in your garden without warning. When it does, goblins will pour out, steal your crops, lay traps, and generally cause you headache. You can get rid of all of them by destroying their campfire.
Equipment
There are a number of different kinds of gear used to help you around the farm. You can upgrade each of them to get better stats. Upgrades across the board nearly always increase Rift Pressure too.
Scythe
This is both your crop harvesting tool, and your primary means of defending yourself from anomalies. Upgraded versions swing faster, and do more damage, so they’re definitely useful to have as the Rift Pressure rises and more dangerous anomalies spawn regularly.
Backpack
This carries your harvested crops. Upgrades increase the amount you can carry before needing to sell. They can also improve the sale value of the crops, so Backpack upgrades should probably be your first thought if you want to make more cash.
Heart
The strangest tool of the bunch, your heart determines your health, speed, and a few other buffs… or debuffs. More advanced (and expensive) hearts come with properties like lifesteal.
Artifacts
Artifacts are items that give passive buffs when placed on the plinth outside your garden. You get them from Artifact Crates. Opening one will spin for a random Artifact, and the rarer the crate, the more chance of a rare find and better buff. You can get Artifact crates from:
Chomper. (See below.)Reaching the end of a Backrooms floor. (Again, see below.)Buying them from the Black Market.
Other Important Things
There are several other weird phenomena that don’t necessarily fit under any of the other categories, so we’ll cover them here.
The Rift Market
The Rift Market is access through the portal in the Shop area after you’ve upgraded your walls enough times. (or by interacting with an Impostor Beanstalk) Going there takes you to a new location with two merchant NPCs. There’s the Beggar King, who sells garden cosmetics, and there’s Gurt, who sells artifact crates.
???
Another possible destination on using an Impostor Beanstalk is ???, a strange dark plane of existence with a swirling sky. There’s nothing much here. If you want you, climb the blocks to the highest point and stand on a little podium there to get teleported to the Rift Market.
The Backrooms
Going through purple portals, and sometimes interacting with Shadow Hands, maybe send you to The Backrooms. This is a featureless yellow area of corridors. It also contains a large number of cash crates, shard crates, and artifact crates. You should try and open these if you can, but don’t hand around for too long. If the timer on the top of the screen reaches zero, something’s going to come after you. To avoid this, find the exit door before then. Once you reach the exit, you can return to your garden, or risk another floor. If you can make it through the Deep Backrooms, and the Poolrooms, you’ll make it to the Blue Cave, which has an altar that will let you fuse artifacts.
Chomper
Around one an hour, Chomper, a large but friendly Mouth Plant in the middle of the shop area, wakes up. All the gardeners in the server can feed Chomper crops. The more Chomper is fed, the better the quality of artifact crate everyone gets at the end.
