Walk Inside Oksana Bula’s Storybooks in Tukoni: Forest Keepers, Out Now

Back in 2020, developer Dream Operator launched Tukoni: Prologue, a free short game that introduced the beautiful world (and art) of Tukoni. Now, after six years, they’ve finally released a full game Tukoni: Forest Keepers, which expands the story in a glorious way.

The game is based on the Tukoni picture books created by Ukrainian artist and author Oksana Bula, who’s also working on the game as its art director. The game transports the books’ hand-drawn, watercolour storybook aesthetic to a digital, interactive format.

Tukoni: Forest Keepers tells its entire story without spoken dialogue

Everything is communicated through animation, gestures and hand-drawn pictograms. It takes place in the Tukoni world, where forest spirits live alongside animals and take care of the environment around them. Some Tukoni look after plants and trees, while others keep watch over the changing seasons from the Heart of the Forest.

You play as Traveller, a forest spirit whose big autumn job is getting the magical forest ready for winter. So, you wander through the woods, meeting the creatures who live there and solving puzzles. Alongside, you’ll be sewing pillows and blankets, collecting herbs, learning tea recipes and brewing tea.

There are four locations to explore, filled with tiny homes, hidden paths and other little details. Traveller meets around 20 inhabitants during the journey, helping them finish their autumn jobs while learning their quirks and stories.

Meanwhile, the Month of the Mushroom has started in Tukoni: Forest Keepers. So, everyone is rushing around before the first frost. Some animals are preparing to enter their winter dreams; others are getting ready for the cold months.

Tukoni: Forest Keepers is out now on Steam and the Epic Games Store for $9.99, and there’s a 25% discount for the first two weeks.
