One of gaming’s most highly anticipated sequels in an iconic adventure franchise just received an update on its release window. Tomb Raider: Catalyst, the next game featuring Lara Croft, was previously delayed to 2028. The game will be preceded by Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis, which is scheduled to release in 2027.
A new financial report from Embracer Group has confirmed that Tomb Raider: Catalyst will be released sometime before March 2028. The report lists Catalyst among the titles expected to launch during FY27/28. This puts the latest release date for Catalyst at March 31, 2028, assuming there are no further delays.
Why was Tomb Raider Catalyst’s release date window recently delayed?
Previously, Amazon Game Studios’ boss Jeff Gattis revealed in an interview that both games had been delayed beyond their initial release dates. In the same interview, Gattis revealed that the company plans to heavily invest in Luna, its cloud gaming service. The games were delayed to give the development teams more time to polish them as well as further develop Luna ahead of their launches.
“Ultimately, we want to build an identity with Luna, where we have a content portfolio that resonates with people, where they think, ‘Oh gosh, that’s the place that has Tomb Raider, and maybe Bond, and they have these other things,” Gattis said.
Amazon always planned to publish both games in subsequent years, and pushing Legacy of Atlantis may have something to do with the crowded game-release schedule in 2026. The latter half of the year will include several major video game releases, including Grand Theft Auto VI in November. As a result, many AAA video games have either moved out of the 2026 calendar year or are being moved into earlier months ahead of GTA VI.
Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis releases on PS5 on February 12, 2027. Tomb Raider: Catalyst currently doesn’t have an official release date.
