Narrative Eco-Apocalyptic Adventure The Swamp Daughter Launches Steam Demo

Argentine indie studio Bicho Raro Games has revealed The Swamp Daughter. It’s a narrative-driven 2.5D eco-apocalyptic adventure that revolves around identity, memory, survival, and the long-term consequences of human actions.

The game is based on the award-winning novel La Hija del Delta by Argentine author and game designer Alejandra Bruno. The novel was published by Indómita Luz editorial in 2023. It’s even being used as reading material in educational institutions in the country.

Who’s The Swamp Daughter?

You play as Julia, a girl who was born during a global pandemic and grew up with her family in a dangerous river delta. Civilisation is fading away, while nature slowly tries to recover. Julia has a dream of creating a peaceful agricultural community instead of just surviving day by day.

To make that dream happen, Julia has to explore the swamp, gather resources, and collect seeds and sprouts for farming. She also has to recover testimonies and objects left behind by humanity, and uncover a family secret that’s been hidden from her for years.

The swamp in The Swamp Daughter is inspired by Argentina’s Paraná River Delta, specifically the Delta del Tigre. It’s a living character, full of beauty, danger, ruins, useful resources, and clues about Julia’s origins.

As you keep exploring the strange, dreamlike world, you have to balance survival and exploration. You deal with bigger themes like environmental collapse, memory, diversity, family, and whether rebuilding after disaster is actually possible.

There are farming and construction mini-games in The Swamp Daughter as well. Every decision you make ripples through the branching narrative, changing Julia’s relationships, her journey, and the future she’s trying to build. There will be multiple endings depending on the choices you make.
