Shueisha Games has announced Seasons of Books and Keys, a drama-like adventure based on Honobu Yonezawa’s bestselling mystery novel series. It’s coming to Nintendo Switch and Steam later this year or early next year.
A slow-burn mystery, it’s developed by iMel Inc. An after-school library, two high school students on the library committee, and people dropping by with little problems that need solving. That’s what the story revolves around.
Those tiny everyday mysteries, however, later start turning into darker stuff involving secrets, lies, missing things, and hidden truths. Take a look at Seasons of Books and Keys below.
You play as Jiro Horikawa, one half of the library committee duo. His job is basically listening to every request that comes into the library, spotting little inconsistencies, and piecing everything together until the truth finally clicks.
The other main character is Shimon Matsukura, who’s Jiro’s complete opposite. He’s sarcastic, thinks way beyond his age, and stands out wherever he goes because he’s tall and good-looking. Ever since the two started spending time together, they keep getting dragged into one strange mystery after another.
The cases are quite a variety. There’s a safe that refuses to open, stolen exam questions, trying to figure out the last book read by an upperclassman who took their own life, and more. Also, you’ll uncover what’s really going on with every client, the secret Shimon has been hiding, and where their friendship eventually leads.
Seasons of Books and Keys is full of drama
The title combines reading a novel with watching a TV drama. You experience the story through visuals, voice acting, music, and your own interactions. The game has richly coloured illustrations and includes a new original episode written by Honobu Yonezawa himself.
