Animal Hospital is all I can think about right now. Maybe I’m influenced by Art Fight, or fun little furry OCs in dastardly situations. Either way, I’ve had plenty of Animal Hospital OC Ideas, all of which I have no use for myself. So, I figured I’d share them in a feature-style article to hopefully inspire you to draw and create your own characters.
Before I get into the ideas, I’d like to make a strong disclaimer. All ideas here are free to use; this means you may encounter other users with similar OCs to you (if they also read this article), be it species, class, starting item, etc. If you like the ideas I have, I encourage you to build on them and diversify, so that you have something that is uniquely yours. Maybe this means changing the species, class, or starting item mechanic.
Also, all art published here is my own! I’m proudly AI-Free and plan to stay that way. If you want to see more of my work, check out my ToyHouse and Art Fight. (Please don’t trace my work or steal my beloved OCs…!)
OKAY. Disclaimer out of the way, let’s get into it.
Animal Hospital OC Ideas
Night Watch
The Night Watch Class is an umbrella for Security, roaming the halls at night to keep nocturnal anomalies out and patients resting overnight safe. To bring some realism to this Class, I imagine them to be a nocturnal mammal, such as a Hedgehog, Skunk, or Oppossum.
Class: Night WatchStarting Item: Torch (10 uses, but can buy new batteries from the Hospital Store.)
Benefits: Can reveal anomalies the same way the camera does, making it easier to check for anomalies if they visit the second window, especially. This works with the exception of the camera anomaly. Also makes the ghost visible the same way the fire extinguisher does.
If you choose one of the mammals I’ve suggested, this Class could have added benefits based on the anatomy of their animalian inspiration. For example, the skunk could create a smelly gas to deter anomalies for a short period of time (one use every 5 shifts). The hedgehog could use spines to protect itself from behind, taking less sanity damage if attacked from the back. Finally, the opossum could play dead to fool chasing anomalies (such as the Mimic and Hiders), to reduce sanity loss and make the anomaly lose interest.
Intern Variant
As an extension of the Intern, I think a new species variant would make for a cool OC. So, let me introduce you to the Jelly Intern! This aquatic hire has x2 Coffee absorption, doubling all coffee sips. To me, this made sense as jellies need liquids to survive in the wild.
Additionally, they begin with a 2-use stinger that works similarly to the taser, without needing to hold an item in their hands. However, on use, they lose -5 sanity from the contact. (-10 Sanity in total from both uses).
Class: InternStarting Item: None
Priest
The Priest Class is the first I’ve thought of which doesn’t use an existing Class as a backbone. This holy class carries a cross, which allows it to cancel Rituals without the sanity loss (1-time use), or exorcise ghosts immediately (4-time use).
A strategic way to utilise the Cross would be to save it for 3x Ghosts, and the final use on a Ritual.
Once the Cross has absorbed the sin of those it repents after four uses, it breaks.
Class: PriestStarting Item: Cross Necklace
To balance this Class, the Priest takes +2 Sanity damage from all other anomalies (not including Ritual loss and Ghosts). For example, the Stalker, which typically deals +10 Sanity, will now deal +12.
Note: I really like the headshots for these OC ideas. I want to point out the deer antlers forming a cross in the space in the middle. I felt like a genius.
Dietitian
My final Class, and another umbrella, this time taking some inspiration from the Psychologist and its double-effect Sanity.
The Dietitian makes sure they stay well-nourished, being able to instantly brew a pot of coffee ONCE per campaign. All food and drink consumed by the Dietitian has double effects. To balance this feastful character, all anomalies deal double Sanity damage to the Dietitian.
Class: DietitianStarting Item: None
An obvious animal for this Class is a cow, since in media they’re heavily tied to food-related theming. However, I thought it would be nice to throw in an extra headshot for this final Class (since the cow on its own looked rather lonely…), so I also drew a panda. I think similarly to the intern, it’d be quite cute and fun if the panda had an unsettling expression, one which kind of implies it’ll eat you if it doesn’t get its meals.
Want Your Idea Featured?
I had plenty more OC ideas that I didn’t have time for here, but I’d love to have an excuse to revisit this in the future and make a part 2. So, if you have ideas of your own which you want shared, feel free to reach me via Toyhouse. (I won’t be posting yours/others’ OCs)
If I do make another one of these, you could have your idea featured with a tagged shoutout. Woohoo!
Check Out Animal Hospital
Hopefully you feel inspired to make some Animal Hospital OCs! If not, maybe get in some more playtime whilst you consider your options via Roblox.
Or, if you’re just here for the fandom aspect of this article, I highly recommend checking out my Is The Intern an Anomaly in Animal Hospital feature. It was a huge labour of love, and I had a great time defending my side for it.
