Hollow Home is a narrative RPG that brings a contemporary issue in the form of a game. You’re put into a war zone as a kid, just 24 hours before an invasion begins. It’s the last normal day he’ll ever remember. What would survival actually look like?

The story is inspired by real events from the Russo-Ukrainian war. Developed by Twigames, the game will be published by Crunchy Leaf Games, an indie publisher based in Berlin, Germany. It’s set to launch this year itself.

You play as Maksym, a 14-year-old boy whose father is already at the front and whose mother is away and unreachable. Hollow Home takes place in a city under occupation. The game has absolutely no combat. Nearly everything revolves around conversations, relationships, and difficult decisions.

Also, the city itself keeps changing as time passes. There are three districts to explore, but they’re not static locations. Buildings get shelled, streets become inaccessible, and people you met earlier might simply not be around a few days later.

There’s also a limited action point system each day, so you can’t be everywhere at once. You can’t save everyone. You can’t take every quest. At some point, you’ll have to decide who gets your time and attention, and who doesn’t.

Maksym’s growth is connected directly to the people he meets. He learns practical survival skills through conversations and completing quests. Cooking, crafting, scavenging, and first aid all become part of his toolkit.

Hollow Home is inspired by classics like Disco Elysium and Planescape: Torment

Isn’t it obvious? The game focuses on storytelling, dialogue, and character-driven choices rather than traditional RPG combat systems. There are deep dialogue systems and branching questlines which drive forward the gameplay.

Hollow Home is a non-linear story with multiple endings. There’s a free demo available on Steam that lets you experience the first days of Maksym’s story. The focus is entirely on choices and the consequences attached to them.
