If you’re unsure of how to get your Res in VV Ultimatum, I’ve managed to get mine, so make sure to follow my steps below. Only Hollow players can wield a Res in VV Ultimatum.
Unlocking your Res is one of the most important parts of VV Ultimatum Hollow Progression.
How to Get Res in VV Ultimatum
Before working towards your Res, you need to reach level 25 as a Hollow. When you meditate, you need to have the right amount of EXP. If not, it won’t work, and your character will fall asleep.
How to Unlock Your Res
To keep track of whether or not you’re making progress when getting your Res, look for the following on-screen message:
‘You somehow feel closer to your goal’
Whilst meditating, a dialogue box appears with various response options. When the unknown voice says:
“What is it you fear most?”
When answering this question, it doesn’t matter which option you go for, whether it be Strength, Cowardice, Mediocrity, Fear, or ‘I fear nothing’. The stranger then calls you a fool, ending the conversation abruptly.
Once the dialogue box disappears, you can meditate again. This time, the dialogue is different. It starts with:
‘You feel a familiar presence emerge from the corners of your consciousness.’
You can either respond with ‘feel out the presence‘ or by asking “What are you?” I recommend going with the latter, as this is what I picked. After feeling out the presence, the dialogue changes and says ‘You feel a cold rush of energy‘.
The next step entails carrying on with the game as usual. Eventually, a mysterious figure spawns at random, sitting on the ground. Interestingly, when they spawn, the well-known “Hey! Listen!” audio from the Legend of Zelda plays.
Head over to the NPC, who is actually your Vasto Lorde, to speak with them. I don’t think it matters which order you click the dialogue options in, as long as you go through all of them. After you click all of them, select ‘Close your eyes’, and your Vasto Lorde disappears.
Inner World Battle
To continue, meditate again to be teleported to your Inner World. From here, run around and search for your Vasto Lorde. Be careful not to step outside the area limit. Objects will start to appear around you, which can make it tricky to see your Vasto Lorde at times.
Like last time, when you find your Vasto Lorde, they are sitting on the ground. After speaking to them, you can activate the boss fight. This battle includes multiple phases, with the first being against your Fishbone form, the second being against your Menos form, and the third against your Adjuchas form.
The first phase can be difficult, depending on which Fishbone type you picked. The worst to go against is by far the Centipede. During this entire battle, parrying is key. I recommend practising your parry skills before you attempt even the first phase.
Activating Your Res
Completing this fight teleports you back to safety and rewards you with your Res. The Res type you get is random, and if you’re unhappy with it, you’ll have to use Rerolls.
To activate your Res, all you need to do is hold down the E key, which causes a short cutscene to play. To level up your Res, make sure to use it as much as possible whenever you fight against mobs and bosses.

There are six Res types, each of which has different variants.
Legendary
1% drop chance.
Los Lobos
Rare
9% drop chance.
SharkFury
Uncommon
30% drop chance.
ElectroLuminosity
Common
60% drop chance.
Frozen Haze
Through your progress as a Hollow, you’ll unlock random Hollow Traits in VV Ultimatum. You can choose which you want to keep, but your current Hollow form determines how many Traits you can have equipped at once.
