Over the years, game developers have constantly tried to reinvent and refresh subgenres and themes. And since thousands of new titles drop every year, as a developer, you really need to do something unique to catch the eyes of players. Scarlet Deer Inn is one such title, and the devs just announced its release date.
Developer Attu Games has announced that the release date of Scarlet Deer Inn is July 21st, 2026. The game has been in development for the last five years and will launch on Steam for PC on the said date. It will also be available on Nintendo Switch and Xbox X/S later.
Now, let’s come to what makes Scarlet Deer Inn so special. It’s the game’s art style. The backgrounds are hand-painted, but every character frame is physically embroidered. Yes, like, for real! You can see the threads moving together to create fluid movement in the scenes.
And that’s not all. The music is also created by the developers using traditional instruments. The soundtrack takes inspiration from the Middle Ages and Slavic music. The story also takes place in a world inspired by Slavic folklore.
Scarlet Deer Inn is a narrative platformer with an emotional story
The story follows Elise, a mother of two. Circumstances push her into exploring places full of both fascinating discoveries and terrifying situations. With a cast of unusual characters, Elise explores a monster-filled underground.
The underground areas are tense because you navigate the darkness with just a torch. Although you do get some hidden shortcuts that make each walkthrough easier. There’s some combat in the game as well, although it’s fairly light and not overly complicated.
The team behind the game is also quite interesting. It’s Attu Games, a husband-and-wife development team based in Znojmo in the Czech Republic. They originally came up with the concept in 2014, but started working on it in 2019. Through the game, they want to deliver a Ghibli-like style and feeling.
