A new indie horror is coming your way via Steam. It’s called Zangyou, and is from Flicker Point Studio, which is both the developer and publisher. Horror here actually translates to the miserable state of staying too late at work and stretches it into a full nightmare.

Zangyou means overtime (work) in Japanese

A psychological horror game, Zangyou avoids any jump scares or creepy monsters. It’s the silence of the night and the loneliness that’s the monstrosity here. It’s the walking through silent hallways under fluorescent lights.

So, your workday is supposedly over, but the building has decided absolutely not. You wake up trapped on the 32nd floor of a deserted Tokyo office tower, where everything is against you. Exits are sealed, while elevators don’t work anymore.

Every single light, lock, hallway, and system in the skyscraper is being controlled by a hostile AI called MirAI. Your only way to leave the building is to try to escape the robot.

So, you crawl through abandoned offices trying to restore power and unlock sealed routes. You solve environmental puzzles while the tower keeps changing around you.

And the building gets meaner the further you go. Corridors shift around, machines patrol the halls, safe areas stop feeling safe, and every route you unlock sounds temporary at best.

Zangyou successfully delivers that weird liminal-space feeling. You’ll find that some rooms straight-up stop making architectural sense. For instance, you step through the wrong gap, and suddenly the office disappears completely, replaced with raw concrete spaces and fluorescent buzzing.

Inspired by The Backrooms

Zangyou is inspired by The Backrooms Game, but it’s more like the office-worker existential dread version. A first-person psychological horror game, it has elements of survival and environmental puzzles.

Are you ready to escape a building that absolutely does not want you to leave? Then, check out the game on Steam. According to the developer, the game will get an Early Access release soon.
