If you fancy becoming a vampire hunter by night in the quest to save your fiancée, all the while testing your strategic skills, The Vow: Vampire’s Curse is right up your alley. Taking inspiration from Into the Breach and Slay the Spire, you must build the strongest deck to surpass the wrath of the vampires over the course of seven nights.

With a planned release date of 2026, you can now play the demo for The Vow: Vampire’s Curse via the official Steam page. The demo features five nights of gameplay, with the full release including the entire seven nights. These initial five nights do a great job at introducing you to the core mechanics and what to expect from the finished version.

Slay the Vampires

Developed by indie studio Mimyr Games, The Vow: Vampire’s Curse combines roguelike gameplay with turn-based deckbuilding combat; the cards you choose make all the difference. It highlights the importance of experimenting with a variety of builds to see which is the most effective for you during your current run.

You play as Richard, a slain knight brought back to the land of the living to save his betrothed. As the sun shines, you need to strengthen your base by increasing defensive measures, placing allies and structures on the tile-based map. Once the sun sets, the vampires come out to play. This is where your daytime preparations are put to the test.

A Sacrifice Must Be Made

The cards you pick, the defenses you build; everything comes down to those nighttime hours. When buildings are damaged, one of the cards in your deck becomes corrupted. Take note of which allies you want to summon, how to push enemies back, and block the waves of vampires from getting any closer.

Create combos with the cards within your deck to inflict chained attacks upon your foes: those you face against change each night, each with different abilities to keep you on your toes.

To add to the challenge, you must make sacrifices. Omens provide a permanent debuff for the run, whereas Artefacts grant useful buffs. The beauty is that every one of your runs will be different. The dark fates you must choose, the cards you place in your deck; everything is unique each time.

Medieval Mirth or Melancholy?

The Vow: Vampire’s Curse is a dark fantasy through and through. Paired with the charming cartoon-like art style, it’s a real visual feast for the eyes. Dark fantasy games and media in general always manage to grab my attention; it’s one of my favourite genres, after all.

The question is, will you keep the vow you made to your most cherished one? Survive the seven nights, and you’ll rescue your beloved from the vampire’s castle. If things go awry, you may find yourself becoming a creature of the night.

Keep up to date with the development of The Vow: Vampire’s Curse by joining the official Discord server. The devs are more than happy to read your feedback, and this demo is the perfect opportunity to try it out. It’s also worth adding the game to your Steam wishlist to be kept in the loop.
