Do you ever wonder, “What if my entire life revolved around making game music and barely holding everything else together?” Well, if you haven’t yet, there’s a new life sim that lets you ask that exact question. Alawon: Life of a Game Composer is the upcoming game on Steam I’m talking about.
Developer and publisher Muscle Cat has just revealed the game at the InterfaceX26 Steam Festival. You start solo in your bedroom with a laptop. Slowly, you grind your way up from doing game jams all the way to working on big AAA stuff.
While you’re doing that, you’re actually making music in-game using a built-in digital audio workstation. You can create real tracks and then export them and share them outside the game. Like on Twitch or export it and listen anywhere.
And the music creation in Alawon: Life of a Game Composer is quite flexible. You can build your own chords, beats, melodies, or just use pre-made blocks. You train three main music skills, which are instruments, production, and music theory.
Alawon: Life of a Game Composer is darn serious about your career
The storyline is about the music industry getting taken over by generative AI and cryptocurrency. You build a portfolio, grow your following, and take on work from game developer clients. There are events happening like public holidays, music trends, live shows, and game audio conferences.
Beyond making music, there’s your usual life as well. You constantly juggle four main needs: Energy, Hunger, Stress, and Inspiration. On top of that, you try to maintain friendships and maybe get into a relationship. There are 10 character stories and 8 romance options.
And the simulated world in Alawon: Life of a Game Composer is quite busy. The NPCs actually have their own lives, schedules, jobs, homes, and do their thing across full 24-hour days and even a 365-day calendar.
You can wishlist Alawon: Life of a Game Composer on Steam. It offers four different endings depending on what you do.
