Does Skunx Games ring a bell? Well, it’s a game development studio run by Winston van Graafeiland, the same guy behind the Horror Skunx YouTube channel. The studio’s debut title, Dark Pals: The 1st Floor, is now out on PC.
Dark Pals: The 1st Floor is a psychological horror game
In the game, you wander around an abandoned children’s mental health facility. Walking through empty halls, you solve puzzles and run into some pretty messed-up characters. The place isn’t just creepy for the sake of it; there’s some kind of deeper mystery sitting underneath everything.
Moving through shifting levels, you solve both environmental and logic-based puzzles. You use a toy paint gun for that. It’s your companion called the Ink Blaster. Take a look at it below.
Then there are the mascots. There’s Chompy Chasey, which is a dog with a ridiculously large head and way too many teeth. And there’s the ever-moist Binky Drinky. And others include Mr Balloony, The Doodledooomer, Bitesizer and more.
These cartoonish creatures hide dark intentions, and they roam around the facility freely. You’re supposed to avoid them while trying to figure everything out. Also, you can’t always trust what you’re seeing. Rooms can change layout, and you might have to ignore your sense of self-preservation.
This is the first entry in the Dark Pals series. The devs are clearly planning to expand it into a bigger thing later, with more stories set in the same universe. Also, more story content will show up through the Horror Skunx YouTube channel.
Dark Pals: The 1st Floor is available right now on Steam. It’s priced at $6.70, and there’s a 20% launch discount for a limited period.
