If you’ve never eaten dosas, I highly suggest you do so, soon. Speaking of the South Indian delicacy, the latest project by Outerloop Games, Dosa Divas, is now out. It’s the same studio behind Thirsty Suitors and Falcon Age. The title takes cooking, exploration, and turn-based combat and puts all of them together.
It was first shown during Summer Game Fest 2024 as part of Outersloth’s funding partnership. And it’s now available across PC via Steam, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch 1 and 2. There’s a 10% off limited-time launch discount on the full price of $19.99.
So, what do the Dosa Divas do?
They cook dosas, of course. The game follows sisters Amani and Samara as they reconnect with estranged friends and family while going up against a rotten fast-food empire. Their personalities carry equal parts of humour and warmth.
With a pretty distinct food and community theme, it has its own narrative-driven moments. The sisters travel with a customisable ancient spirit-mech called Goddess, which plays a big role both in traversal and combat. They reconnect communities with their traditions after years of separation.
They platform through vibrant villages, face off against corporate goons, and try to patch things up with people they’ve drifted apart from. The animation work is quite energetic, while the characters are almost toy-like. Take a look at it below.
You can use boost points at the start of turns to stack damage multipliers. While each character draws on Spirit Power from one of the five flavour profiles. There’s also an Ultimate meter that builds up for group attacks.
The Dosa Divas rage, fish, and trade to gather ingredients, then prepare meals for villagers. Movement abilities like double-jumping, drilling, and grappling open up paths across the world. They let you find ingredients, hidden routes, and new characters.
