Fight Life: Vanguard is a new tactical turn-based RPG with a presentation of heavy pixelated dark fantasy. The game comes from developer StartImpulse and is published by TwoCakesStudio. It’s now available across PC on Steam and will soon arrive on PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch.
Fight Life: Vanguard lets you just coast through on basic moves
Set in a dark fantasy world, you lead a mercenary squad through a series of encounters. It includes everything from skeletons and wolves to bigger threats like the Spider Queen and the Goblin King. There’s also a mysterious spirit guiding the journey, which reveals the truth behind something called Darksoul.
The story follows a once-powerful god who has been betrayed by his own human apprentice and who tried to ascend by sacrificing his master. That same divine spirit starts off distrustful of humanity, but begins to reconsider after seeing people stand their ground against the spreading darkness.
Before fading into the void, the god makes one final attempt to help save humankind. So, you get to recruit characters, develop them over time, and use them effectively in battle. The campaign is split into four chapters.
There are three difficulty levels. The normal mode expects you to actually think through your decisions. Hard mode, on the other hand, test players who already know their way around tactical RPGs.
Fight Life: Vanguard sticks to a pixel-art style but uses it to build a pretty moody and atmospheric setting. It’s lightweight, with minimal system requirements, which makes it accessible to a wider range of PCs. Take a look at it below!
Every choice has weight
To mark the launch, there’s a 20% discount in place right now on Steam. It usually costs $14.99, but the discount slashes the price to $11.99. The game is localised in 13 languages, and is a single-player game.
