Death Stranding 2: On the Beach has a huge update coming up for its PS5 version. Meanwhile, the game is preparing to land on a new platform. The PC version officially arrives this Thursday, March 19th, 2026. At the same time, PS5 players are getting the sizable update completely free.
It’s a significant shift from how the first game handled its extra content through a paid Director’s Cut
The new PS5 update will bring new additions and previously cut material to Death Stranding 2: On the Beach. One of the main changes is a new difficulty mode called To The Wilder. Apparently, it’s going to be tougher than anything in the base game.
Boss fights are also getting a second life. The team has added replayable encounters, including fights against Neil. Next, Sam’s Private Room is getting a small, strange addition with a Chiral Cat.
A chunk of content that didn’t make it into the original release is now being restored, too. That includes new live-action cutscenes that were originally cut due to storage limits. You’ll also find extra footage and even new nightmare sequences for Sam.
The upcoming Death Stranding 2: On the Beach PS5 update is free!
What stands out here is how the publishers are rolling everything into a free update rather than split off into a separate edition. Oh, and also, the PS5 version is getting 21:9 ultrawide support, which is unusual for console releases.
The details were shared by Hideo Kojima during a segment on the Japanese radio show Spacewalk. This is the first major update the game has seen in a few months, so don’t miss out! Check the game on PlayStation. Or if you’re a PC player, pre-purchase the game on Steam.
