How to Upgrade Weapons and Armor in Assassin’s Creed Shadows

The world of feudal Japan is big in Assassin’s Creed Shadows. There are a lot of points of interest to discover and complete various locations. As you explore the world, you will come across several weapons and armor pieces. It is essential to upgrade the weapons and armor so that you can match up the power with enemies. However, there is no certain shop or vendor in the outer world that will upgrade your gear. You must unlock the Forge at the Hideout to be able to upgrade the weapons and armor. How to Upgrade Weapons and Armor in Assassin’s Creed Shadows

Upgrading the weapons and armor is relatively different than previous installments of the Assassin’s Creed series. Instead of upgrading the gear in the Inventory menu or going to a vendor, you will have to upgrade them at the Forge. The Forge is one of the structures that you can build and upgrade at the Hideout. Players will get the tutorial of the Hideout quite early in the game. From there, they will have to gather resources to build the Forge and find Heiji to bring him to the Hideout. As Heiji will be your blacksmith, who will assist you in upgrading the gear, dismantling it, and engraving it.

How to Build the Forge in Assassin’s Creed Shadows

To build the Forge in Assassin’s Creed Shadows, go to the Hideout and select the option to open the structures. Here, you will find the Forge structure. Building the Forge initially will require the following resources.

40x Crops

30x Wood

10x Minerals

Upon building the Forge, you will be able to upgrade, dismantle, and engrave the gear, as long as you have Heiji at the Hideout. Moreover, there are three levels to the Forge. Each level provides different functionalities. Here are all the functionalities of the Forge in Assassin’s Creed Shadows.

Level 1 Forge: Heiji will be able to upgrade the gear up to Level 20 and he will be able to dismantle the old gear as well.

Level 2 Forge: Heiji will be able to upgrade the gear up to Level 40 and he will be able to engrave the gear with non-legendary engravings.

Level 3 Forge: Heiji will be able to upgrade the gear up to Level 60 and he will be able to engrave the gear with legendary engravings.

Where to Find Heiji in Assassin’s Creed Shadows

Finding Heiji and bringing him to the Hideout is crucial for upgrading the gear in AC Shadows. During the early quests of the game, you will get the objective of finding Heiji in Sakai. It is a part of the “Way of the Blacksmith” quest. Go to Sakai and make your way to the Port of Sakai. From here, hold L2 (Aim button) and start heading east. You will see a blue shining dot on the screen. It determines the location of Heiji. Go to the blue dot to find Heiji and speak with him. After the conversation, he will travel to the Hideout. Now, fast travel back to the Hideout. Go to the Forge structure and you will find Heiji.

Upgrading the Weapons and Armor in Assassin’s Creed Shadows

Upon bringing Heiji to the Hideout and building a Forge, you will be able to upgrade the weapons and armor. Speak with Heiji and select the “See Shop” option. Here, you will see two tabs initially, one is Upgrade and the other is Dismantle. If you upgrade the Forge to Level 2, you will also see the Engrave tab in the shop.

Now, to upgrade the gear, go into the Upgrade tab to see all of your gear items. Select the weapon, armor, or trinket that you like to upgrade, and confirm. It will cost a certain amount of materials and currency.

NOTE: Upgrading Yasuke’s gear requires the same procedure. All you have to do is to come to Forge in the Hideout as Yasuke and speak with Heiji. You will be able to upgrade his gear as well at the cost of materials and currency.

For both of the characters, you will only be able to upgrade their gear to your overall Level. If your level is 15, then you will only be able to upgrade each gear item to Level 15. As you level up further, you will be able to upgrade the gear accordingly.
