Baldur’s Gate 3 Could Launch December 6 on Xbox Series X/S

Good news, Baldurs Gate 3 fans! A notable leaker has pointed to December 6 as the official release date for Xbox version of the critically-acclaimed RPG. According to exputer, that’s the date developer Larian is working with right now, should playtests go positively.

Baldur’s Gate 3 entered early access a whole 3 years ago, exclusively on PC. You could play through the entire first act, which represented a game’s worth of content in itself at around 25 hours.

Since then, Larian has worked hard on improving the experience and its system, concluding with its full release on August 3 this year on PC. The PS5 and MacOS versions then followed on September 6.

Where is the Xbox Series X/S Version of Baldur’s Gate 3?

Curiously, Xbox Series X/S were missing from the list of platforms back when Larian announced the release date. Shortly following this, Larian confirmed that split-screen on Series S was the sticking point, as Larian couldn’t make it work.

Phil Spencer then met with Larian at Gamescom and hashed out a deal that allowed Larian to release the game across Series X/S without split-screen available at launch on the latter.

This marks a big sea change for Microsoft, who previously required games to be available with full feature parity across Series X and the weaker S. It turns out that Baldur’s Gate 3 is too big a release to not appear on the console.

What Does the Leak Say?

And now, notable leaker eXtas1s has claimed that Larian will launch the Xbox port on December 6. eXtas1s does have some form, after correctly leaking the Forza Motorsport release date.

Given that it’s a leak and not an official statement by Larian, I recommend that you take this with a pinch of salt. The game is also currently in playtesting, which could delay the process further if Larian discovers any further issues.

It’s also worth noting that Michael Douse, who works at Larian, has tweeted in response to Eurogamer‘s article the three words “News to me”. Douse might simply be throwing us off the scent, of course. but we’ll have to wait and see.
