“I want to talk to you… without speaking…” A24 has unveiled the first official trailer for Queer, the second film from Italian director Luca Guadagnino out this year (he also opened Challengers in spring). Queer, adapted from the William S. Burroughs’ novel, originally premiered at the 2024 Venice Film Festival (here’s my review) with stops at the Toronto, Zurich, London, and New York Film Festivals as well. Set in the 1950s – Daniel Craig stars as drifter Lee, who recounts his life in Mexico City among American expatriate college students and bar owners surviving on part-time jobs and G.I. Bill benefits. He is driven to pursue a young man named Allerton, based on Adelbert Lewis Marker. Drew Starkey co-stars as his infatuation Allerton, with a cast including Lesley Manville, Jason Schwartzman, Henrique Zaga, Omar Apollo, & Colin Bates. This is a very tender and sensitive trailer that captures the more delicate vibes of this film about a queer man struggling to deal with his lust for this young man. After the sweltering streets of Mexico City, he ends up going on a drug trip in the jungle. I’m not the biggest fan of the film but this is a very lovely trailer. // Continue Reading ›
