Taming dinosaurs is a fundamental aspect of Ark: Survival Ascended, as they can assist in resource gathering, defeating other dinosaurs for food and hides, and more. However, taming larger dinosaurs can be challenging at the beginning, as it requires the right tools to trap and incapacitate them, followed by feeding to tame. As you level up and learn Engrams for recipes, you’ll eventually be able to tame larger dinosaurs. In the meantime, you can start by taming wild baby dinosaurs and raising them to aid you.

Here’s how you can tame baby Dinosaurs in Ark: Survival Ascended.

During your adventures on the island, you will encounter wild baby dinosaurs from time to time, typically on the beach or in the forest. Wild baby dinosaurs are often accompanied by a nearby parent unless their parent has been killed by another dinosaur. The parent dinosaurs are usually non-hostile, allowing you to move around them without danger.

Taming a baby dinosaur involves a unique taming system designed specifically for them. To begin the process, you must eliminate the parent of the baby dinosaur. While it may seem harsh to take away a baby dinosaur’s parent, it’s a necessary choice for your survival and progression. You can choose to engage the parent dinosaur in either close combat or ranged combat with a bow, depending on your preference.

Ranged combat is more efficient, particularly if you position yourself on high ground where the parent dinosaur cannot reach you. Simply deal enough damage to defeat the parent dinosaur. Once the parent is down, approach the baby dinosaur to find the imprint and taming option. You can then name your newly tamed baby dinosaur, and it will begin following you.

It’s important to note that both the baby dinosaur and the parent dinosaur have levels that determine their health. Higher-level parent dinosaurs will have more HP and will take a few minutes to defeat. Fortunately, baby dinosaurs remain non-hostile throughout the entire encounter between their parent and you.

After taming the baby dinosaur, it becomes your responsibility to nurture it and promote its growth. Provide it with food and care until it reaches 10% growth, at which point it can start assisting you in hunting and harvesting resources alongside your other tamed dinosaurs.
