Progressing through the main story of the Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree will require you to burn the Sealing Tree located over at the Church of the Bud in the Ancient Ruins of Rauh region. It is the northwest region of the Realm of Shadow and burning the Sealing Tree will allow you to enter the area above Belurat, Tower Settlement Legacy Dungeon.
However, it might not be clear how to burn the Sealing Tree as there is not a clear path or guidance throughout the adventure. This guide will help you burn the Sealing Tree to access the final area in Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree.
How to Burn the Sealing Tree in Shadow of the Erdtree
Burning the Sealing Tree will require you to make significant progress in the DLC to get your hands on Messmer’s Kindling, a key item specifically used for setting fire to the Sealing Tree. Messmer’s Kindling is rewarded to players after defeating Messmer the Impaler at the Dark Chamber located on top of the Shadow Keep Legacy Dungeon in the Scadu Altus region.
However, there are some prerequisites that players should complete first to get to the Shadow Keep.
Defeat Rellana, Twin Moon Knight to exit Castle Ensis.
Head north from the Highroad Cross Site of Grace to reach the main entrance of Shadow Keep.
Activate the elevator to go up and pick up the Main Gate Site of Grace.
Defeat Golden Hippopotamus and pick up the Main Gate Plaza Site of Grace.
After reaching the Shadow Keep, you will have to get to Messmer the Impaler to defeat him and get Messmer’s Kindling.

Once you have defeated him and got Messmer’s Kindling, you need to make your way to the Ancient Ruins of Rauh region through the west bridge of the Shadow Keep. From there, make your way through the Ruins on the west to reach Miquella’s Cross and the Ancient Ruins of Rauh, East Site of Grace. Follow the bridge ahead and go past the giant to reach the hill and find the Ancient Ruins of Rauh, West Site of Grace. Now, simply follow the path ahead to reach the Church of the Bud, Main Entrance Site of Grace.
Before you get to reach the Sealing Tree through the Church of the Bud, you will have to defeat another main boss named Romina, Saint of the Bud. Once she has been defeated, continue ahead along the path through the church to reach the Sealing Tree.
Examine the tree and you will be granted the option to burn the Sealing Tree. Make sure that you have defeated Messmer the Impaler, otherwise, you will not get the option to burn the Sealing Tree. Upon selecting the option to burn the Sealing Tree, watch the cutscene and you will be teleported to Enir-Ilim, the final area of the DLC.
