The Realm of Shadow in Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree DLC offers five expansive regions that players can explore to find exclusive new weapons, items, talismans, and even encounter hidden bosses. However, not all regions are connected straightly as some of them require a certain path to reach.
One of the regions that might be confusing players on how to discover it is Abyssal Woods. It is the eastern region of the map but reaching it requires a long path. This guide will help you reach the Abyssal Woods in Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree.
How to Reach the Abyssal Woods in the Shadow of the Erdtree
Reaching the Abyssal Woods region requires a long journey taking you through the Shadow Keep to reach the water area on the southeast side of the Shadow Keep and then continue in the southern direction to go along the Recluses Cave to reach the Darklight Catacombs at the southeast edge of the Scadu Altus region. From there, you have to complete the Darklight Catacombs to reach the Abyssal Woods.
Moreover, before you begin the adventure to reach the Abyssal Woods from the Shadow Keep, you must have done the following prerequisites.
Defeat Rellana, Twin Moon Knight to exit Castle Ensis.
Head north from the Highroad Cross Site of Grace to reach the main entrance of Shadow Keep.
Activate the elevator to go up and pick up the Main Gate Site of Grace.
Defeat Golden Hippopotamus and pick up the Main Gate Plaza Site of Grace.
Once you have reached the Main Gate Plaza Site of Grace at the Shadow Keep, follow along the sections mentioned below to reach the Abyssal Woods.
Path to Reach the Castle Watering Hole Site of Grace
The Castle Watering Hole Site of Grace is reached through the Shadow Keep Legacy Dungeon. Follow the path from the Main Gate Plaza Site of Grace to reach the Castle Watering Hole Site of Grace.
Head through the passageway on the left side of the Main Gate Plaza Site of Grace and follow along the staircases ahead to reach a large room.
Exit the room from the passageway at the back of the room and follow the path ahead to reach a ladder on the left side past the bridge.
Climb down from the ladder and go to the right to enter an archway behind the waterfall.
Climb down the ladder in the room and go to the room on the left with “Domain of Dragons” Painting.
Hit the wall on the right to reveal a hidden passageway and continue ahead on the path to reach a coffin.
Rest at the coffin to go below and then head out to the open area ahead to find the Castle Watering Hole Site of Grace.
Path to Reach the Darklight Catacombs
Follow the steps mentioned below to reach the Darklight Catacombs.
Head in the south direction from the Castle Watering Hole Site of Grace to reach the Recluses River Upstream Site of Grace.
Continue in the south direction along the path and then jump to the path on the right and continue ahead to reach the Recluses River Downstream Site of Grace.
From here, go along the path on the right to start descending and continue ahead to eventually drop down to lower ground.
Continue straight to find the door to Darklight Catacombs.
Open the gate and go down the elevator ahead to pick up the Darklight Catacombs Site of Grace.
The Darklight Catacombs is a confusing dungeon as there is no boss door that you need to open by interacting with a handle hidden somewhere. Instead, you need to keep on descending through the elevators to reach the outside on the other end and then defeat a boss to get access to the Abyssal Woods region.

Abyssal Woods in the Shadow of the Realm
After defeating Jori, Elder Inquisitor boss at the Forsaken Graveyard Site of Grace, head outside the graveyard to enter Abyssal Woods. Continue in the southeast direction along the main road to reach the map fragment location and pick up the Abyss Map.
There is nothing much in the Abyssal Woods region but there is a Remembrance Boss named Midra, Lord of Frenzied Flame who can be found at Midra’s Manse located southwest in the Abyssal Woods region.
