The Realm of Shadow incorporates several NPCs who can lend you aid in your adventure through the merciless Shadow Realm. Moreover, similar to the NPCs in the base game, there are also some NPCs for whom you can complete quests to earn unique rewards. One of the NPCs that you should consider completing the quest for is Count Ymir, the overseer of the Cathedral of Manus Metyr.
This guide will walk you through the complete quest of Count Ymir in Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree.
Complete Ymir Questline in Shadow of the Erdtree – Guide
Where to Find Count Ymir and How to Start His Quest
Count Ymir is the overseer of the Cathedral of Manus Metyr. He is found inside the Cathedral of Manus Metyr located northeast of Castle Ensis in the Scadu Atlus region. To reach the Scadu Atlus region, you will have to defeat Rellana, Twin Moon Knight at Castle Ensis. Once out in Scadu Atlus, grab its Map Fragment and head northeast from the fork in the main road to reach the Moorth Ruins Site of Grace.
From here, go to the southern end of the ruins to find a hole in the ground. Jump down the hole to reach the cavern area. Follow the cavern path to reach a ladder at the end. Climb the ladder to reach the Bonny Village. Now, make your way to the east side, crossing a couple of bridges to find another Site of Grace called Bridge Leading to the Village.
Continue straight on the main road to find the Church District Highroad Site of Grace, and then continue on the road turning south to reach the Cathedral of Manus Metyr. Enter the cathedral and pick up the site of grace. Speak to Count Ymir and go through the dialogues to start the quest. During the dialogues, he will give you the Hole-Laden Necklace and a Ruins Map.
Where is the Location for the 1st Ruins Map
The first Ruins Map points toward Finger Ruins of Rhia located northeast of Cerulean Coast. You can reach the Cerulean Coast through the Ellec River Cave. Simply, follow the cavern area to reach the downstream and continue ahead on the path to come out in Cerulean Coast. Once there, make your way toward the southeast to reach a giant sculpture and find the Finger Ruins of Rhia Site of Grace on the right side of the sculpture.
Sound the Hanging Bell in Finger Ruins of Rhia
Follow the path to the giant crater filled with Fingercreepers and go to the Four Finger-like statue with a hanging bell in the middle. Upon reaching the statue, go near it to get the option to Sound the hanging bell. As you sound the bell, you will be rewarded with Crimson Seed Talisman +1.
Speak to Ymir and Take the 2nd Ruins Map
Now, fast-travel back to the Cathedral of Manus Metyr and speak with Ymir. Go through the dialogues and he will give you the Beloved Stardust and the Ruins Map (2nd). After getting the items, speak with him again and ask him about the nature of the world. Once you have spoken to Ymir, it’s time to head to get the O Mother Gesture before you get to the new Ruins Map location.
Where to Find the O Mother Gesture
O Mother gesture is found on the northeast side of the Bonny Village. From the Bonny Village Site of Grace, head in the northeast direction towards the cliff to find an old tree. There will be a headless body beside the tree with the O Mother gesture, pick it up.
Where is the Location for the 2nd Ruins Map
The 2nd Ruins Map points toward the Finger Ruins of Dheo located east of the Hinterland in Scaduview region. To reach the Scaduview region, you need to go to the Back Gate Site of Grace in the Shadow Keep. Once there, head to the room on the right from the Site of Grace to find a headless statue of Marika. Stand in front of the statue and use the O Mother gesture to reveal a secret passageway leading to Scaduview and the first Site of Grace, Hinterland.
Head to the east from the Hinterland Site of Grace to make your way to the Hinterland Bridge Site of Grace, and then continue ahead to reach the Fingerstone Hill Site of Grace. From here, you need to head south into the crater to reach the Finger Ruins of Dheo.
Sound the Hanging Bell in Finger Ruins of Dheo
Similar to the Finger Ruins of Rhia, the Finger Ruins of Dheo is filled with Fingercreepers and Snakemen. You need to head into the crater and go to its southern end to find the Four Finger statue with a hanging bell inside. Reach the bell and sound the hanging bell to complete the task and you will get the Cerulean Seed Talisman +1.
Speak to Ymir and Take the 3rd Ruins Map
Go back to Ymir at the Cathedral of Manus Metyr and speak with him. Go through the dialogues to get the Ruins Map (3rd). After getting the 3rd Ruins Map, speak with him again ask about Miquella.
Speak to Jolán in the Cathedral
Before heading out to the next location of the Ruins Map, go to the east side of the Cathedral to speak with Jolán.
Where is the Location for the 3rd Ruins Map
The 3rd Ruins Map points toward the Finger Ruins of Miyr located underneath the Cathedral of Manus Metyr. To get to the Finger Ruins of Miyr, you need to unlock the secret passageway under the throne of Ymir. You can only do this when Ymir is not sitting on the throne. To remove Ymir from the throne, simply rest at the site of grace and pass the time to see if he has moved. Once he is not on the throne, go and interact with the throne to move it and reveal a ladder. Climb down the ladder and you will reach the Finger Ruins of Miyr.
Sound the Hanging Bell in Finger Ruins of Miyr
Upon reaching the Finger Ruins of Miyr, you will see the Four Finger statue with a hanging bell in the distance in front. However, as you start going near it, you will be invaded by the Swordhand of Knight Anna. Defeat the invader and make your way to the hanging bell and interact with it to sound it.
Defeat Metyr, the Mother of Fingers
Once you have sounded the bell in the Finger Ruins of Miyr, you will encounter a boss fight against Metyr, the Mother of Fingers. Defeat her to proceed to the final steps of Ymir’s quest.
Get the Iris of Grace and the Iris of Occultation for Rewards at the End
The Iris of Grace and the Iris of Occultation is a one-time use items that is used for receiving rewards at the end of Ymir’s Quest. However, you have to first find these items before you can claim the rewards you prefer.
Where to Find the Iris of Grace
The Iris of Grace is located inside the Shadow Keep. From the Storehouse, First Floor Site of Grace, head to the door on the left and go down the elevator. After going down from the elevator, go to the path on the right and go to the end of the hallway. Turn left and go down the staircase on the right to reach a large hall. Go to the back of the main hall to find the Iris of Grace.
Where to Find the Iris of Occultation
The Iris of Occultation is found by killing an enemy at the Fort of Reprimand. The Fort of Reprimand is located south of Moorth Ruins Site of Grace. Head inside the fort and stick to the wall on the left to come across a hole. Drop down to the hole and defeat the enemy inside to get the Iris of Occultation.
Defeat Swordhand of Night Jolán and Count Ymir, Mother of Fingers
Now, make your way back to the Cathedral of Manus Metyr and you will be invaded by Swordhand of Night Jolán. Defeat her and after that, Count Ymir, Mother of Fingers will spawn. Defeat Ymir as well to move on to the final stage of the quest.
Defeating Count Ymir, Mother of Fingers will give you the following rewards.

Talk to Dying Jolán – Rewards
After defeating both Jolán and Ymir, reset the Cathedral by resting at the grace. Now, go to the location of Jolán and speak with her to get a choice of either choosing Iris of Grace or Iris of Occultation.
Choosing the Iris of Grace will reward you with Swordhand of Night Jolán Spirit Ash that you can summon for your fights. Choosing the Iris of Occultation will reward you with Sword of Night, Katana weapon.
We would recommend you to choose the Iris of Occultation option as it gives you an insanely powerful weapon as a reward.
