Square Enix has revealed a wealth of new details for its upcoming remake of a beloved JRPG in a historic franchise. Announced earlier this year, Romancing SaGa 3: Destinies United will offer extended gameplay mechanics in full 3D graphics for the first time. Square Enix has released a new media kit revealing details on the game’s new companions, combat mechanics, and more.
The publisher also announced the contents included in the Romancing SaGa 3: Destinies United Digital Deluxe Edition. Those who buy the premium edition will get the following:
Romancing SaGa 3: Destinies United base game
3-day early access to the game
Additional costumes
Additional equipment
Battle BGM toggling feature
Additional formations
Button Badge Set
Additional Formations Pack
Business Game Item Pack
War Mode Item Pack
Those who pre-order the game will also get Tatyana’s Piggy Bank and the “How to be a Hero” rimer by Robin. Fans of the franchise can also link their save data from Romancing SaGa 2: Revenge of the Seven to get the Leon’s Crown item.
Romancing SaGa 3: Destinies United details new companions, combat, and progression
The first major reveal is the list of new traveling companions that join the player on their journey, along with their voice actors. These include the following:
The Minstrel: A wandering minstrel traveling across the world, voiced by Riku Terahata and Yung-I Chang.
Tatyana: A wandering girl flitting from town to town, voiced by Saho Shirasu and Christina Assaf-Costello.
Nora: The chief of a long-standing smithing workshop in Pidona, voiced by You Taichi and Fryda Wolff.
Muse: The surviving daughter of the formerly esteemed House Claudius of Pidona, voiced by Kurumi Orihara and Ryan Bartley
Charl: The former captain of the Imperial Guard of Pidona and personal guard to Lady Muse, voiced by Ryuichi Kijima and Mauricio Ortiz-Segura
As for exploration, players will now be able to raise their renown rank, through which they can unlock perks like expanded United Attacks. Players can also forge and reforge equipment at the Pidona Workshop and utilize new battle formations. These include formations like Triple Incisors and Rampaging Mammoth. The workshop can also be expanded by locating smiths across the world. Those who want to switch out party members can do so at any time from a pub or save point.
During combat, the battlefield may be occasionally attuned to a magic element, creating a Ley Line affinity. When this happens, players can cast spells of the same school for stronger effects. Another addition to the remake is Mr. S, the franchise’s well-known mascot. Players can find Mr. S in various places and get rewarded with stickers. Collecting enough stickers will also grant boons.
Square Enix also announced that Romancing SaGa 2: Revenge of the Seven has surpassed 1 million sales, becoming the first game in the series to do so. This makes it the first title to achieve this milestone since SaGa Frontier. The news was accompanied by a new piece of artwork by Yoshiro Ambe.
Romancing SaGa 3: Destinies United releases on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, Nintendo Switch 1 and 2 on February 16, 2027.
