For most gamers, the Steam Next Fest is one of the best times of the year. This year’s event has brought multiple interesting titles, one of which is Backrooms: Reality Failure. A first-person psychological horror nightmare, it has dropped a demo on Steam that you can try out during the Steam Next Fest.
Trapped inside a high-security office complex
You’re a new employee; you turn up for work, everything seems normal enough, and then you fall asleep. When you wake up, though, the office isn’t the place you remember. The corridors are distorted, and the building feels horribly wrong.
Your coworkers have stopped behaving like actual human beings. Instead, you’ve got motionless figures standing around the place, silently watching you wander through empty hallways.
You’ll be searching for letters left behind by someone who was stuck in this place before you. These notes contain information about the strange rules governing the building and clues that could help you escape.
So, does this place even have an exit? Backrooms: Reality Failure seems determined to make you doubt whether escaping is actually possible.
The Backrooms: Reality Failure demo is available now
You can experience its first-person psychological horror, explore the unsettling office corridors, uncover the mysterious letters, and search for the items needed to get out. The demo is part of Steam Next Fest, so it will be available until October 26th, 2026.
I’m curious to see how far the game takes its central idea, especially with the combination of environmental exploration and all its cryptic messages. What about you? Just remember that if a mysterious letter tells you to trust the motionless person standing in the corner, perhaps don’t treat it as official company policy.
