The Devil, a cursed family, some dodgy contracts signed in blood, and a card game where losing could have rather unpleasant consequences. All of these make up The Killing Stone, an upcoming 17th-century occult horror deckbuilder.
The Killing Stone is developed by Question, the indie studio behind The Blackout Club and The Magic Circle. The game is getting its full 1.0 release on Steam for PC on October 21st, 2026. It’ll also arrive on the Epic Games Store, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, with the game priced at $19.99. The game entered Early Access on February 18, 2026.
The Killing Stone takes place in a remote part of the Arctic Circle, where you’re trying to save the cursed Svangård family from demons and the Devil himself. You play as the Maven, a master of the dark arts who was also the late Mariken Svangård’s final friend.
Your job is to investigate the mysterious circumstances surrounding Mariken’s death, explore the family mansion, and talk to its troubled inhabitants, including their animal familiars. Bring a coat, perhaps a priest.
The story is presented from a first-person perspective. It has a painterly, stylised look. Between battles, you’ll be exploring the mansion and chatting with family members, uncovering the origins of the family’s hereditary curse. Branching dialogue lets you learn more about the characters’ motivations and fears.
The card battles revolve around a ceremonial game board with the Fanghella, also known as the Killing Stone
The board features magical creature figurines that come to life with animations and dazzling visual effects. Spells and incantations round out your options, giving you different ways to approach each encounter. And the Reserve system lets you stack units and buffing incantations above the battle line so you can deploy them later.
