Mr. Records has released its first public demo on Steam. Wired Productions and developer Glee-Cheese Studio have launched it just ahead of Steam Next Fest in October. The combination of a record shop sim, a rhythm game, and a bunch of psychedelic dream sequences can never go wrong, can it?
In the game, George is an old dreamer who’s spent most of his life stuck in the same routine. So, he finally decides enough is enough and opens the record store he’s always wanted. During the day, you’re running the shop alongside your pet dog, Buzz.
Then the shutters come down at night
And that’s when the records come alive. Every record George plays turns into a playable musical journey through his imagination, with surreal landscapes that change and move along with the music. You’re running, jumping, sliding, dodging and chaining actions together in time with the tracks.
There are more than 40 handcrafted levels across the musical trips. The soundtrack covers a pretty ridiculous spread of styles. There’s funk, progressive rock, hip-hop, electro, world music and ’80s pop, with all of the original music composed by the developers themselves.
George’s memories are connected directly to the music. You’ll find them through records, photographs, notes and other little discoveries from his past. Some songs are happy and nostalgic, while others deal with regrets, lost love, and the life George feels he never really lived.
The shop is full of quirky people, hidden stories, and musical riddles. Learning about different records can help George recommend the right album to someone. New stock gets unlocked as you go, while sales gradually deepen his relationships with the people coming into the store.
And between all the musical journeys, George can head upstairs to his bedroom, which acts as a hub area above the shop. You can review memories, keep track of your progress, take calls and just have quieter moments to think about the story and music.

The Mr. Records demo focuses on the beginning of George’s story, with him taking the first steps toward turning his lifelong dream into reality by opening his own record store. You’ll meet the colourful cast of customers, make sales, discover their stories and start building George’s collection. Then, once the store closes, the records become these playable reflections of memories, emotions and moments from his life.
