Cozy PlayStation 5 Adventure Game Out Today on PS Store

Norwegian independent studio Hyper Games has released its cozy adventure game for PlayStation 5. The game is based on the popular Moomins franchise and focuses on gentle exploration and puzzle-solving with a comfy feel. It was previously launched for PC and Nintendo Switch in April 2026.

Moomintroll: Winter’s Warmth is now available for PS5 on the PlayStation Store. It is the studio’s second game inspired by Tove Jansson’s Moomin characters, the first one being Snufkin: Melody of Moominvalley.

The game follows Moomintroll after he unexpectedly wakes early from winter hibernation, only to find winter is continuing while the rest of the family remains asleep. He sets out to bring back spring and wake them up. Along the way, he also tries to bring his best friend, Snufkin, back to Moominvalley while helping the valley’s residents.

From watercolor visuals to dynamic snow, crafting Moominvalley

Similar to its Snufkin game, Hyper Games designed the game to resemble an interactive storybook. The team drew inspiration from Jansson’s watercolor artwork while creating the environment with a blend of 3D shapes and painted 2D elements. Players can also meet characters such as Too-Ticky, who was inspired by a real person in Jansson’s life.

They used shaders and textures in Unity (the development engine) to create the watercolor effect. According to the developer, the goal was to make the visuals look as if paint had soaked into paper.

The team also focused on how snow behaves in the game. The game’s environments use simple structures covered by a deformable layer of snow. It responds to the Moomintroll and other characters as they walk through it.

This creates visible tracks and movement across snowy areas. Players can also push and displace the snow as Moomintroll walks through it, making it feel weighted and tangible.

Moomintroll: Winter’s Warmth is currently priced at $19.99 on the PlayStation Store. The game is also listed as PS5 Pro Enhanced.
