Hariti is out now for PC. It’s a first-person psychological horror game from Chinese developer Ghostcase, the studio behind Dread Flats. It has everything you need in a gripping horror title: scary imagery, weird monsters, and psychological tension. And that too, happening in the backdrop of a hospital!
You play as a mother searching for her missing daughter inside a crisis-ridden, abandoned Chinese hospital. You’re trying to figure out where your daughter is, what happened inside the hospital, and what the hell is hiding behind its walls.
Hariti is specifically going for Chinese horror scenes, with hauntingly realistic and authentic-looking environments, while its monsters are inspired by ancient folklore. There’s no light, just damp corridors, rusted hospital beds, and whispers that come from everywhere. Surely, the hospital sounds like a particularly miserable place to spend any amount of time.
Then there’s the Hariti weapon
Your only weapon is a desiccated, stillborn infant that gives off an eerie aura. Yep, I mean props to the devs for writing such a game. It expects you to use this disturbing object as you explore, evade and fight your way through whatever is stalking you. Bizarre!
And it doesn’t end there. Hariti is full of grotesque creatures born from ancient folklore. It’s a convoluted story where nothing is necessarily what it looks like. The game is like Outlast, but with a much stronger Chinese cultural spin on the horror.
Hariti is now available on Steam for $6.99. There’s also a 10% launch discount during the first two weeks, which brings the price down to $6.29. Take a look at the launch trailer, if you can dare to!
I know such gritty horror titles aren’t everyone’s cup of tea. If you’re looking for a Ghibli-like Japanese folklore-inspired game instead, read our scoop on Seina: A Tale of Spirits.
