Developer Tainted Pact Games’ upcoming title brings that grimy PS1-style horror adventure back. The Skin Stapler now has a release date, bringing a mix of old-school slasher movies, detective noir, and the late ’90s survival horror games.
The Skin Stapler launches on Steam on August 6th, 2026, with a price of $14.99. It’ll also be releasing on GOG the same day. The game comes from the creator of Suffer the Night, Terror at Oakheart, Massacre at the Mirage, and Flesh Made Fear.
The aesthetic screams 1980s VHS horror
It’s got classic PS1 visuals, neon-lit streets, noir-inspired storytelling, and dark comedy. The story takes place in Carrion City, a completely rotten 1980s city drowning in crime, drugs, and moral collapse.
You play as Detective Dick Slater, a burned-out veteran cop, alongside his rookie partner Robbie Knox. Together they’re trying to track down a serial killer, The Skin Stapler, who’s been terrorising the city with some seriously horrifying murders.
The Skin Stapler targets young women in their homes and workplaces, skins them, and staples their flesh onto nearby walls. Leaving behind grotesque crime scenes along with distorted audio tapes that mock the police: that’s his signature style.
You also play from multiple perspectives throughout the story. That includes ordinary civilians during the final moments of their lives as they’re stalked by The Skin Stapler. Each viewpoint adds more context, emotional weight, and different angles to the investigation.
Every frame in The Skin Stapler drips with grime and dread. Carrion City is just as important as the killer, with its filthy streets, endless shadows, and constant sense that everything is falling apart. On that note, catch a glimpse of the title here.
