In news we didn’t expect to see today, a remaster of a 2008 cult-classic action adventure game is headed to the PS5. Ao Oni was originally released in Japan as a freeware horror game made with RPG Maker XP. It quickly garnered a cult following and spurred numerous media adaptations, including a 2014 movie of the same name.
Action adventure game Ao Oni headed to PS5 in a few days
Ao Oni remaster won’t be free, but it won’t cost much either. Developer Game Studio will release Ao Oni on the PS5 this Friday, July 3, for $9.99 (thanks, Gematsu).
The remaster was previously released on PC and Nintendo Switch in 2024.
“Long ago, there was a mansion on the outskirts of town. There were whispers among the people about such rumors as Blue monsters coming out,” the plot reads. “What the four people who visited the mansion saw were monsters. Can they escape alive?”
The remaster adds two new modes:
High Speed Mode: Choose between 2x and 15x speeds to have the blue demon chase you faster.
Ao Oni Ai’s Story: A girl named Ai awakens in a mysterious mansion. Explore the mansion, where the rooms change every time you play, find items, and attempt to escape.
A PS Store page for Ao Oni has yet to go live.
