The narrative-driven visual novel series Coffee Talk has a new addition. It’s Coffee Talk Tokyo, the third title in the series. Moving out of Seattle, it’s modern Tokyo, where humans and yōkai are all hanging around the same café trying to survive the brutal summer heat.

You’re back behind the counter as the barista, serving customised drinks while customers slowly unload their lives onto you. It features stories with unresolved trauma, retirement crises, afterlife confusion, and also, a whole lot of lo-fi music.

Developed by Chorus Worldwide Games and Toge Productions, Episode 1 first launched on PC and consoles in January 2020. Later, in April 2023, came out Episode 2: Hibiscus & Butterfly. And now, Coffee Talk Tokyo is out on PC via Steam, Nintendo Switch 1, Switch 2, PlayStation, and Xbox Series.

Love, identity, loss, second chances…

Obviously, Tokyo is a huge part of the game’s atmosphere. The game describes the city as paper and steel and old and new existing together. Wrapped in neon lights, you get the Tokyo summer heat and a bunch of yōkai customers.

And since it’s scorching hot, Coffee Talk Tokyo adds cold beverages too. There are also new ingredients and recipes. The latte art system also got expanded as you can use sprinkle stencils to create designs before finishing drinks with milk and etching.

And the social media system is big, too. Tomodachill is back as Tomodachill 2.0! You now get clickable hashtags that lead you into hidden posts and extra conversations from characters you don’t even follow yet.

Some of those posts contain actual clues that affect story outcomes and best endings. Others just expand the wider Coffee Talk universe and sneak in cameos from older characters. Speaking of characters, the game introduces 11 new characters.
