It’s a pretty interesting indie Metroidvania. Made by Sol Brothers, which is just two people from France, Maseylia: Echoes of the Past brings bits and pieces of many things. And looks like it works well. It’s an action-adventure, a platformer, a non-linear Metroidvania, and it’s all in 3D!
The devs had a lot of inspiration for the title. First of all, the gameplay draws influence from Metroid Prime, Pseudoregalia, and Hollow Knight. Meanwhile, the game’s visual design is inspired by the art of Moebius and games like Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind, Sable, and Scavengers Reign.
Everything has a dreamy sci-fi fantasy look with alien forests, weird techno-organic structures, ancient ruins, forgotten cities, and surreal environments. The whole point seems to be movement freedom and non-linear exploration.
Take a look at the latest trailer below.
Maseylia: Echoes of the Past is honestly super ambitious!
You play as a spirit with transformative abilities, exploring an interconnected labyrinth-style world full of secrets and lore. With platforming and traversal, every new power completely changes how you move through older areas.
You get abilities like double jump, 360-degree air dash, grapple mechanics, and other traversal tools that make movement fluid and fast. Even the battles are mobility-focused and built around movement.
Environmental storytelling is the focus in Maseylia: Echoes of the Past. You’ll uncover the tragic history of Maseylia through ruins, exploration, and remnants left behind in the world. The game is coming to Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Windows, and Xbox Series X/S in 2026.
Right now, there is a demo live on Steam for PC, so you can try it out. This is a revamped demo, which includes some new features. There’s a new journal feature, a money system, and a reworked map.
