Spellbound Studios is developing and publishing a new title on PC. It’s called Shattered Realms, and they’ve just dropped a playtest for the game on Steam. While the full release is set for later this year, this playtest will pave the way for the demo and the game’s early access phase.
The game is set in a broken, messed-up fantasy world. A massive betrayal shattered the world into a bunch of corrupted chunks called realms. As one of the last surviving Guardians from Aetherhold, you try to bring back peace.
So, you constantly fight through the fractured pieces of the world, dealing with waves of corrupted enemies, weird bosses, and just generally chaotic combat. It’s a fast-paced roguelite action RPG, so expect a lot of dying, restarting, and slowly getting stronger over time.
Every run is different, with procedurally generated maps, random encounters, and events popping up. Enemies have their own movement styles, attack patterns, and behaviours. There are different wave bosses with mechanics that you need to figure out.
You play as the Guardian class. Right now, the Shattered Realms playtest offers only 2 classes. You mix their abilities with shared elemental and physical magic to build your character however you want.
Loot is a big deal too, obviously. You pick up randomised gear with different rarity tiers, stat rolls, and modifiers. Bosses can drop special items that actually change how your build works. Then, between runs, you go back to Aetherhold, where you craft stuff, upgrade your gear, tweak your loadout, and prepare for the next attempt.

The progression system is split between temporary and permanent upgrades, which is very roguelite. During a run, you grab abilities that shape how you play right then and there, but you also unlock long-term upgrades that stick with you.
