“You can’t make a band with loonies!” “It’s a valid psychiatric experiment.” 🎸 Samuel Goldwyn Films has revealed an official US trailer for the extra kooky dark comedy titled The Last Viking from Denmark, the latest by filmmaker Anders Thomas Jensen (also of Adam’s Apples, Men & Chicken, Riders of Justice). Finally opening in the US this May in theates and on VOD – this one is worth a watch. It first premiered at the 2025 Venice Film Festival last year to plenty of positive reviews from critics – it’s an original, very dark and strange comedy unlike anything else out there. Starring Mads Mikkelsen and Nikolaj Lie Kaas as brothers, but Mikkelsen is traumatized and has strange psychological quirks – he thinks he’s John Lennon as part of his psychological disorder due to trauma. After his brother, a bank robber, is released from jail he tries to unlock his other brother’s memory to recover stolen loot – since he’s the only one who knows where it’s buried near their parent’s old house in the woods. Comedy ensues when a psychiatrist puts together a band to help jog Mads’ memory. The cast includes Sofie Gråbøl, Lars Ranthe, Kardo Razzazi, Lars Brygmann, Nicolas Bro, & Søren Malling.
