Windrose is an immersive survival title set in the Golden Age of Piracy, allowing you to roam the world freely and progress at your own pace. The world of Windrose has a lot to offer, and it is exciting to sail on the open sea to explore new islands. Although the game pushes you to pursue the story for more exciting features and gear pieces, there is a unique farming feature you can unlock by exploring the Foothills biome. If you are wondering how you can get crops and useful plants quickly in Windrose, farming is the answer. In this guide, we will tell you everything you need to know about Farming in Windrose, including all crops.
How to Unlock Farming in Windrose
Farming is one of the main features in Windrose that players can only unlock by gathering Fertile Soil. The Fertile Soil is limited and only spawns at the “Ancient Farm” POIs throughout the Foothills biome. Foothills is the second major biome in Windrose that you can access after defeating Thomas Richards, the main boss of the Coastal Jungle biome.
Sail to the southeast side to make your way to the Foothills Island. Once there, start exploring the island to look for an Ancient Farm (POI). There will be some wildlife around this ruin; make sure to clear them out. Once done, you can find the Fertile Soil around the ruins. It is a muddy soil, and you can collect it with your Pickaxe tool, just like you collect Clay.
Equip the Pickaxe and start hitting the soil to collect it. Gather all the Fertile Soil around the ruins, as you will be using the soil to set up your farm.
NOTE: You cannot make Fertile Soil on your own. To get more Fertile Soil, you have to collect more from the Ancient Farms.
How to Plant and Grow Crops in Windrose
How to Make Seedbeds
After unlocking Farming, the next step is to set up your own farm by making Seedbeds. The Seedbeds are the core foundation of the farm, as most crop seeds can only be planted on the Seedbeds. To make a Seedbed, open the Building Panel by pressing B, navigate to the “Farming” category, click on the Seedbed, and then place it on the ground. It will cost 5x Fertile Soil for 1 Seedbed. I would recommend placing the Seedbeds on top of a wooden surface, preventing them from interfering with the sand.
How to Get the Seeds
The next step is to plant and grow crops, for which you need seeds. You get seeds randomly by harvesting wild crops throughout your adventure. Every time you harvest peppers, tomatoes, flax, etc., you have a chance of getting the corresponding seeds.
How to Plant and Grow Crops
Lastly, the final step is to plant the seeds and grow them till they mature. To do so, open the Building Panel (B) and select the crop you wish to plant from the “Farming” category. The selected crop will highlight, and you can place it anywhere on the Seedbed. You don’t have to be precise in planting the seeds. After planting the seeds, you have to wait for them to mature. There is no watering mechanism, so the seeds mature over time.
Not all crops are planted in the Seedbeds. You need to plant trees and bushes on the open ground in the vicinity of your base.
Once the crops are ready, interact with them to harvest them. You will have to harvest each crop separately. Harvesting the crops will give you the corresponding resource, alongside a chance of a seed.
