Charcoal is one of the uncommon resources in Windrose that works as a fuel for smelting ores. Progressing through the tutorial and getting better equipment in Windrose early will require you to get Charcoal to make ingots. Initially, you will be making Copper Ingots for various items, including tools, weapons, Fast Travel Bells, and so on. Without the Charcoal, you cannot run the Smelting Furnace station to turn ores into ingots. In this guide, we will tell you how to get Charcoal in Windrose.
How to Get Charcoal in Windrose
Charcoal is not a natural resource in Windrose. To get the Charcoal, you must burn wood in the Charcoal Kiln station. The Charcoal Kiln is one of the early stations, which you get to unlock as you progress through the tutorial. Upon getting your first Copper Ore from the mining cave on the coastal island, you will unlock the Charcoal Kiln recipe.
Once you have the recipe, open the Building Mode to craft the Charcoal Kiln. It will cost you the following resources to craft 1 Charcoal Kiln.
20x Clay: Mine the clay deposits on the ground, near the beaches.
25x Wood: Cut down the trees or any wooden structures.
Charcoal Kiln is a station that turns wood into Ash and Charcoal. Ash is essential for making Gunpowder, and Charcoal is a fuel for smelting ores. Interact with the Charcoal Kiln station and add wood. It will take about 30 seconds for 1x wood to turn into 1x Charcoal. It is best to add a stash of wood to get a ton of Charcoal at once.
Additionally, you can use the Hardwood to get more Charcoal. 1x Hardwood gets you 2x Charcoal from the Charcoal Kiln. However, it takes 45 seconds for 1x Hardwood to turn into 2x Charcoal. So, if you have Hardwood on you, you can use that to get more Charcoal.
How to Use Charcoal in Windrose
As mentioned above, Charcoal is a fuel for smelting ores in Windrose. To smelt any ore at the Smelting Furnace station, it will require Charcoal. Interact with the Smelting Furnace to add both ores and charcoal to start making the ingots.
