The Morgue Shift Walkthrough
You might have sold shawarma, or manned a scary grocery store. Now there’s a new job where they don’t mention how many jumpscares happen on an average night. It’s time to start your time on The Morgue Shift, and hopefully live to see your next morning. We made this The Morgue Shift walkthrough to help you get to grips with the basics, and hopefully not end up fired, or in the freezer yourself.
Content Notice
As you might expect from a game about working in a morgue, the game handles some pretty heavy content relating to death, often the untimely kind. While there’s no graphic depictions, and all the bodies in the game are covered by sheets or shrouds all the time you work with them, some of the stuff featured is pretty real. If the idea of that bothers you and you’d rather a horror game that’s still terrifying, but the grimmest parts are more supernatural, we’d recommend taking a look at our Mulberry County walkthrough and playing that instead for some analogue horror torment.
Now we’ve got that cleared up, let’s explain some more about the game.
The Basics
In The Morgue Shift you are a night shift worker at a hospital morgue. It’s up to you to accept bodies of those who died at the hospital, and prepare them for either handing over for burial, or for cremation.
The usual process is simple enough. There are three different tasks you might be asked to do.
Sterilizing
In this one, you need to clean and wrap the body before sending it back up to the ward.
Wait for a call from the nurse.Accept the body. The body will arrive in the elevator right in front of you.Interact to grab the stretcher.Back the stretcher out, and turn right. (Left if you’re facing the desk.) This corridor heads to the Sterilizing Room.Roll the stretcher up to one of the washing stations on the sides of the room.Place the stretcher, then move the body onto the station.Roll the stretcher away for later.Turn on the water.Fetch the soap from the shelf at the front of the room.Wash the body.Fetch a shroud cloth from the opposite shelf to the soap.Place the shroud cloth on the central table.Move the body to the central table.Wrap the body.Bring the stretcher alongside the table.Move the body onto the stretcher.Wheel the stretcher out and over to the elevator.Call the nurse from the desk phone to let them know the body is ready to go.Put the stretcher in the elevator.
Cremations
Cremations are slightly different.
Accept the body.Take it to the crematory. (This is in the opposite direction to the Sterilizing Room, with a door on the left-hand side.)Park the stretcher opposite the cremator.Open the cremator.Place the body on the frame.Close the cremator.Turn on the cremator.Open the cremator.Take the bones from the cremator and place them in the grinder.Activate the grinder. When the grinder is finished, take an urn from the shelf.Place ashes from the grinder into the urn.Place urn on the stretcher.Take stretcher over to elevator.Call the nurse to let them know the urn is ready.Put the stretcher in the elevator.
Autopsies
This is a task where you store the body, rather than sending it back upstairs.
Accept the body.Take the body from the lift and take it to the autopsy room. It’s a door on the right in the hallway to the Sterilization Room.Place the stretcher.Move the body onto the autopsy table.Move the stretcher away.Interact with the body to perform the autopsy.Interact with the computer to log your findings. (If there’s talk about calling the police, refer to the ‘The Truth Behind’ bit in the Endings section, it’s important!)Bring the stretcher over.Move body onto stretcher.Wheel body to the morgue freezer. (The big room past the Crematory.)Park the stretcher.Open the correct freezer. (You will be told which one.)Place body inside.Close the freezer.Take stretcher back to front desk.Call the nurse.Place stretcher in elevator.
Fetching A Body
Sometimes, only an empty stretcher will arrive. In these cases, you need to get a body from the Morgue Freezer, mentioned above. You complete the following steps:
Take stretcher from elevator.Wheel stretcher to the Morgue Freezer.Park stretcher.Open the correct freezer. (They’ll tell you which you need to open.)Move body over to stretcher.Close freezer.Wheel stretcher out.You should then get one of the instructions listed above.
Spooky Things
Sounds simple, right? Well… it seems like the dead in this morgue aren’t resting as peacefully as you’d ideally like, and while you work on your shift you’ll have to contend with unquiet spirits while you complete your tasks. Some of them are friendly, some are spooky but harmless, and
Crying Girl
The crying girl may appear in the corner of the sterilization room. She sits with her knees pulled up and sobs, but won’t react if approached. You can carry on as normal. When you’re done treating the body and make your way into the corridor, you’ll find her on the wall, spiderman style, looking less sorrowful and more threatening. Fortunately, you can roll on past with no problems.
Sitting Cadaver
Sometimes the body gets a little bit lively and sit up on the stretcher. Fortunately this isn’t a massive problem. You just need to start pushing the stretcher again and the dead person will chill out and lie down. Sir, you’re making a scene.
Final Goodbyes
Occasionally you’ll find a photo on bodies that you’re Sterilizing or Cremating. These may sit up, or the body may appear standing in front of you in the Crematory. Don’t worry though, they don’t mean any harm. They just want to thank you for taking care of them on their final trip. You’ll at least know they’re at peace.
The Crematory Goblin
This little guy makes it his mission to give you a heart attack. In some cases, you may hear giggling and see something small scampering along the floor out of the corner of your eye. These means the goblin is about and you should be very careful when opening the crematory after a cremation is , because he will jump right out at you. He can’t actually harm you, but we hate him anyway.
Endings
The game has several different endings. Some of them are pretty easy to get, some of them you might find by accident. We’ll run over the ones we’ve found so far and how you get each of them
Failed Shift
Interact with the board on your left at the computer desk that brings up the prompt ‘End Shift’. You’ll immediately leave and get this ending, because you left without handling the bodies. You can get this one at pretty much any time before shift end.
You’re Fired!
You get this one be refusing bodies via the phone call. The hospital won’t take kindly to you refusing to do your job, and will fire you. Not that surprising. I mean, you are a morgue technician.
The Truth Behind
This slightly terrifying ending is accessed through one of the bodies. You may receive a cadaver for autopsy. On conducting the autopsy, you’ll see the body has a bunch of missing organs. This reeks of foul play, so you think about calling the police. If you do, gas will flood into the room. You’ll find yourself on a gurney with a nurse looming over you. As it turns out, the hospital won’t left you reveal their secrets. So it’s into the furnace with you.
True Ending
You get this ending if you can complete a whole shift without messing anything up, and without getting tossed into the oven by an evil nurse. Congratulations on surviving a shift! But there’s always tomorrow night…
