Focus Features debuted a fascinating behind-the-scenes look at Chloe Zhao’s acclaimed film Hamnet, which is now playing in theaters. The 9 minute video is a “reel destinations” featurette taking us to many of the shooting locations in the UK. Hamnet tells the powerful story of love & loss that inspired the creation of Shakespeare’s timeless masterpiece, Hamlet. Jessie Buckley stars as Agnes Shakespeare (aka Anne Hathaway), and Paul Mescal as William Shakespeare. It’s the story of Agnes as she struggles to come to terms with the loss of her only son, Hamnet. They couldn’t film in the current Stratford-upon-Avon (where they originally lived) so they found another town that looked more realistically old to replicate what it was like when William & Agnes were living there in the late 1500s. There’s many other locations they visit, ending up at the impressive Globe Theatre replica that Zhao & her team built for the finale in the film.
