How to Get Traits

The appearance of secondary traits is rare, but they offer additional buffs when equipped to a weapon or a piece of armor. Not all Runes have secondary traits, and more often than not, they only come with a singular one. However, if you manage to find a Rune with a secondary trait, you should save it for strong weapons/armor. You don’t want to waste it!

Unfortunately, there is no manual way of getting Runes with traits, as it’s all down to luck.

Frequently Asked Questions

How to Get Runes in The Forge

To obtain Runes for your weapons and armor, all you need to do is mine! Runes have a chance of appearing no matter which type of rock you’re hitting with your pickaxe. If you’re using a pickaxe with a high Luck stat, you’re more likely to find a Rune.

How to Equip Runes

Once you have a Rune, you can visit the Runemaker NPC in either Stonewake’s Cross or the Forbidden Kingdom. From here, you can equip a Rune to a weapon or pickaxe of your choice.

Some weapons/pickaxes do not have Rune slots from the get-go, which means you have to enhance them to at least +3 before you can do so. There are a few weapons and pickaxes that come with 1 or more Rune slots upon obtainment; therefore, they do not require enhancing, though you should still do it anyway to upgrade their stats!
