“If the wind in my sail on the sea stays behind me, one day I’ll know how far I’ll go…” Disney has revealed the first look teaser for their next new live-action movie based on an animated classic hitting theaters next summer – Moana will opening in July 2026 on screens around the world. (Also known as Vaiana in other countries.) Just in time to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the original movie, Disney Animation’s Moana starring the voices of Dwayne Johnson & Auli’i Cravalho, which was released in 2016. While they did bring back Dwayne Johnson to also star in this as Maui again, they recast the lead role and it will star actress Catherine Laga’aia as Moana instead of the original voice Auli’i Cravalho (who is still involved as an executive producer on this one). The cast also includes John Tui as Chief Tui, Frankie Adams, and Rena Owen and Gramma Tala. In ancient Polynesia, when a terrible curse incurred by the demigod Maui reaches Moana’s island, she answers the Ocean’s call to seek out Maui to set things right.
