Our Doors Outdoors Monument Lore piece discusses how it relates to the Weeping Angels, and whether or not Monuments are just a source of food. To learn more about how to evade this Doors entity, read our Monument guide!
Doors Outdoors Monument Lore
Now, while we’ve already discussed the mechanics of the Monument entity and how to survive an encounter against it in one of our other guides, this piece focuses more on the lore of the creature.
Monument Versus Weeping Angels
Whether you’re a fan or not of Doctor Who, most people have heard of the Weeping Angels. These alien creatures from the popular franchise work similarly to the Monument entity. With a Weeping Angel, you need to look directly at it for it to stay still and behave just like a statue. If you look away, it moves at quick speeds to attack you.
The same goes for the Monument in Doors. When you encounter this entity, you must move around the room while looking at it. If you turn away, even for a short duration, it sprouts legs, breaks its body in two, and starts to chase you. The longer you’re looking away, the faster it moves towards you. This entity can either stab you, dealing 35 DMG, or instantly kill you. Though not all Monuments are dangerous, as some are just decor in the Outdoors.
Are Monuments Food?
As mentioned above, some Monuments are simply decorative objects. The ones that are true entities have a creature hiding beneath, which includes spider-like legs. Sometimes, you may spot a campfire that is roasting what looks to be meat.
From the looks of it, this meat is the Monument, as you can see the broken pieces of the object on the ground. So, are Monuments a source of food? There’s also the theory that non-entity Monuments have creatures that may be separate from the object, but they’ve somehow climbed inside.
There’s also a subroom that some players can encounter, although it’s quite rare, that features a Monument being attacked by the vines of the World Lotus. While the lore of the World Lotus states that it controls all living entities in the Outdoors, it’s clearly trying to cause damage to the Monument, as the creature flails its legs.
Just like the Weeping Angels, Monuments do not make verbal sounds. There’s a theory that the Monument cannot do this as it doesn’t have a mouth. With the fact that it has to rip its body in two to chase after you, and that the entity is completely silent, it’s believed that the Monument is trapped within its own pain but cannot express it.
