“The star of the show should always be the porridge itself. Just let the oats sing!” Dogwoof has revealed the official trailer for a Scottish documentary film titled The Golden Spurtle, set in the quaint little town of Carrbridge in the Scotland Highlands. The film is set for a release in the UK this September, but still has no US date yet. It premiered at the 2025 CPH:DOX Film Festival and has appeared at a few other festivals as well. Welcome to the Porridge World Cup. Each year the sleepy highland village of Carrbridge awakens with excitement as locals and competitors from around the globe vie for the honor of winning the coveted “The Golden Spurtle” in the World Porridge Making Championships. A film all about oatmeal! Believe it or not! If you’re wondering what a “spurtle” is, it’s a wooden object that is the traditional kitchen utensil used to stir the porridge while it’s cooking. The award is a golden version of this funny wooden stick. I’ve seen this film (via CPH:DOX) and it’s actually quite entertaining, capturing all the kookiness and amusement that comes from an event called the World Porridge Championships.
