The film follows a treasure hunter who goes to Europe to find the Mona Lisa after a solar flare ruined the Earth’s eastern hemisphere. Original development on this project began in 2018, halted and restarted again in 2024. Following Danny Boyle’s Sunshine and Charlotte Wells’ Aftersun, now it’s time for Afterburn. After a massive solar flare destroys the Earth’s eastern hemisphere, an emboldened treasure hunter for hire adventures into Europe to uncover the coveted Mona Lisa and other artifacts, only to learn the world needs a hero more than it needs a painting. Starring Dave Bautista as Jake, Samuel L. Jackson as Valentine, Olga Kurylenko as Drea, with Kristofer Hivju, Eden Epstein, and Daniel Bernhardt. This looks like a stunt show extravaganza with endless violent action, but also with one of the dumbest scripts ever written. Every single line is cringe.
