Project Shadowglass just dropped a gameplay trailer at the Future Games Show Spring Showcase 2026. Viewers started comparing it to the hugely influential Thief series, particularly Thief: The Dark Project from 1998 and Thief II: The Metal Age from 2000. And it’s quite evident. The similarities.

The Thief games are classics that are a big reason stealth gameplay works the way it does today. They focused on staying unseen, studying guard patrols, hiding in shadows, and carefully navigating environments. So, how much of all the thrill does Project Shadowglass bring? Let’s find out!

When night arrives, the real work begins

The devs at Starhelm Studios describe the game as a love letter to immersive first-person stealth sims like Thief, Deus Ex, and System Shock. Through the game, they want to bring back the slow, methodical style of gameplay where planning and observation matter.

The Project Shadowglass gameplay trailer reveals its unusual visual style. The game uses a new 3D pixel art rendering approach. It produces nostalgic pixel visuals inside a fully navigable 3D space with complete 360 movement. According to the team, all the footage shown so far is captured directly in the engine in real time.

Why don’t you watch the Project Shadowglass gameplay trailer for yourself and see for yourself what’s in store?

The story puts you in control of a struggling thief living in a cramped slum apartment in a dark seaside kingdom. The wealthy nobles of the city have aligned themselves with a new king who promises them even greater power. While the poor are pushed further down the social ladder.

The city becomes increasingly oppressive, with taller towers and thicker walls built to keep the lower classes where they belong. Somewhere in the middle of all this, you receive a mysterious request from an anonymous source asking you to acquire ancient artefacts in the city.

You can check the game out on Steam.
