To progress through Dollhouse Bloodshed, you need to unlock the attic, but this requires a hidden key. Another major puzzle in the game is the mysterious picture piece sewn onto a painting – I’ve written up a handy guide detailing how I cut the painting in Dollhouse Bloodshed.

How to Unlock the Attic in Dollhouse Bloodshed

When wandering the halls of the mansion, you may have spotted the attic space, which you cannot enter. This is another one of the locked rooms in Dollhouse Bloodshed, which requires the Attic Key.

Find the Attic Key

The key you’re looking for can be obtained by finding the missing doll head and placing it upon the shelf. This shelf is one of the first things I interacted with during my first playthrough of the game, and it took me an extremely long time to work out how to find the doll head. I clicked on every doll head that was attached to the walls, including any I could see on the floor, but to no avail.

Collecting the Missing Doll Head

Once you obtain the hammer, which is located in the back room of the kitchen, you can carry on with your playthrough as usual. However, once the small doll (shown in the picture above) starts wandering around and chasing you down hallways, it’s time to finally fight back. This small doll tends to appear once you unlock the second floor, after you break the wooden planks blocking the door with the hammer.

While you can evade this doll, as long as you have the hammer equipped, you can hit it. Doing this results in the doll’s head falling off.

Unlocking the Secret Room

Pick up the doll head and walk back to the shelf on the first floor. Place the doll head onto the shelf, and you’ll unlock a hidden room once the shelf splits in half.

Enter this room to find the Attic Key on the table next to a doll’s head with a candle stuck in it.

Now, you can find the stairs that lead you to the attic. After using the Attic Key to unlock the door, you are faced with a giant doll head with blacked-out eyes.

SPOILER WARNING (DO NOT READ IF YOU DON’T WANT TO BE SPOILED)

It cries and begs you not to hurt it. The doll head then states that you don’t sound like ‘mother’, and that she always sounds angry. A bit of lore is then explained regarding who ‘mother’ is and what she’s been up to. This ‘mother’ built the doll to serve the mansion.

The creature chasing you through the mansion is ‘mother’. As punishment, she took this doll’s sight, hence the blacked-out eyes. The doll promises to help you escape if you manage to bring her sight back. Understandably, you question how in the world this could be possible. But the doll already has a clue to share. She’s heard her sisters whispering about ‘mother’ hiding a giant eye somewhere.
