The Carmageddon franchise is back, with a brand new spin-off game announced from developer 34BigThings.
During the PC Gaming Show: Most Wanted this week, 34BigThings unveiled the next entry in the Carmageddon series. The new game, Carmageddon: Rogue Shift, is a roguelite take on the iconic vehicular-combat series. Much like its name implies, Rogue Shift will blend the action and chaos of the original Carmageddon series with a roguelite twist.
When does Carmageddon: Rogue Shift come out?
Carmageddon: Rogue Shift is set to release sometime in early 2026, and will be available on all major platforms. Check out the announcement trailer for the game below:
Players can go through different runs in 15 different, upgradeable vehicles. Each failure makes you stronger as well, as each run allows for different chances to try out the more than 80 perks found in the game. The roguelite campaign of Rogue Shift will feature branching event maps, dynamic challenges, and permanent progression between runs, meaning you can end up having quite a powerful car when all is said and done.
Alongside the roguelite aspect of the game, Carmageddon: Rogue Shift also has a litany of big features, including:
15 Upgradeable Vehicles – From rugged tanks to agile hot rods, each with unique handling and weight.
13 Weapon Classes – Shotguns, missile racks, lasers, railguns, and more.
80+ Perks – Stack outrageous Synergies to turn your ride into a rolling executioner.
Dynamic Weather & Day-Night Cycle – Rain-slicked streets, fog-shrouded ambushes, and night-time zombie swarms.
Elite & Boss Battles – Face corrupted enforcers, supermutated Wasteds, and monstrous war machines.
Permanent Progression – Spend Beatcoins in the Black Market to unlock cars, weapons, and perks between runs.
“We are bringing something fresh to the franchise and the racing genre” said Giuseppe Enrico Franchi, Game Director. “Carmageddon means explore, experiment, paint the streets red and crumple up opponents. We want our players to adapt, upgrade, and unleash destruction on zombie hordes with glee behind the wheel of a killing machine. Rogue Shift will hit with those who fondly remember the legendary series, and those who are discovering it for the first time – reignited, reinvented and more thrilling than ever.”
Originally released in 1997, Carmageddon is a vehicular combat franchise. Like its name suggests, the games largely feature players racing other vehicles in different settings, while fighting to try and damage the other cars in the race as much as possible. Carmageddon had two sequels, released in 1998 and 2000, and had a mobile version released in 2005. A reboot was planned in 2015, but the game never released.
